We said our goodbyes to our quirky wilderness cabin, with a quick swing,
And a brief Pac-Man tutorial.
It was time to leave Nova Scotia,
But, wanting to make a good impression in our new stomping ground, we all agreed the previous day’s intense trekking dictated the first stop of the day should be,
The car wash.
Figures we drive halfway across the country and we could’ve given them the same thrill a half a kilometre from our house.
From there it was on to the Sydney Ferry Terminal.
As veteran riders of the ferry between Tobermory and Manitoulin Island, we are pretty familiar with the process. Turns out (as many have told us) “things move a little slower” on the east coast.
The Chi-Cheemaun holds 140 vehicles has one on ramp and takes 10-15 minutes to load.
Our ship, the MV Blue Puttees (No, really. That was the name.), holds 570 cars, has two on ramps and took TWO HOURS to load. That’s right, 120 minutes.
It wasn’t entirely clear what the hold up was as staff chit-chatted and randomly chose vehicles in a nondescript shuffle pattern from the 15 incoming lanes. Go figure.
We eventually boarded with the rest of the masses.
True to form, Britt upgraded our booking to a private cabin,
Of which everyone else immediately took advantage.
The weather was beautiful as we pulled out of Sydney.
Food options were limited, as apparently “salad” was unavailable on this crossing. Britt found a couple work-arounds to get her veggies in.
One successful,
The other not so much.
Turns out “Sweet and Sour Chicken Stir-Fry” is just sugary ketchup mixed with pasta noodles.
Given that by this time the view consisted of 360 degrees of open ocean, we opted to hunker down,
For a viewing of The Batman.
A three hour dark and depressing slog, it killed any cheerful moods, and the rest of the 6.5 hour trip nicely!
We arose from the bowels of the ship, to be greeted by some prime Newfoundland weather as we sailed up to The Rock.
Despite the rain, the scenery was still spectacular,
And a little sun managed to peek out just as we cruised into Cornerbrook.

And no one was sea sick? Amazing! Beautiful sunset view. 🤗
Port aux Basque I remember it well.
Arriving in the rain at dusk. Thinking" No wonder they leave this place"
Pretty desolate.
Mama
Good idea getting the private cabin. It's a long boat ride. I think your weather has definitely changed and you may want to rethink the shorts. Enjoy Newfoundland and take in all it has to offer.!
