Clearly no trip to Nova Scotia is complete without circling past the “must see” destinations on every extant list, brochure, guidebook and shitty travel blog (touché)…
First up was the tiny village of Peggy’s Cove,
And the ‘Most Photographed Lighthouse in Canada”.
(Add three more to the count.)
The kids and I were most impressed with the amazing granite rock formations.
Unfortunately, our flip-flops and Ciel’s gimpy arm relegated us to mere wistful thinking about the awesome parkour stuff we could have done in more optimal conditions..
Oh, and also this:
(Please be sure to note the dramatically cast flower petals drifting on the wind)
Meanwhile, cowed by the signage,
Mummy broke into a cold sweat, just looking at the rocks.
"It's fine, I'll watch from over here..."
(*Subsequent research identified the actual stat as 4 people in the last 20 years, not that it would've made a difference...)
Ciel and her getting-straighter-every-day arm took a moment to marvel at the massive fin whale jawbone,
Before grumbling stomachs bade us a hasty retreat to the ship-building shores of Lunenburg.
Lobster?
Yes, please.
The town was super cute,
(BMO branch, Est. 1907)
And very colourful!
It's also the birthplace of the Bluenose and home to its homage, the Bluenose II.
“Hey, guys! It’s the Bluenose!”
“Oh, wait, nope, that’s some other random boat. The Bluenose II hauled anchor 20 minutes ago while we were busy stuffing our faces with beer and lobster…”
You win some, you lose some.
The disappointment was so crushing, that as soon as we got back to Halifax (following a brief detour to the hotel pool) we rounded up the twins,
And headed out immediately…
For more beer…
…And lobster.
Why fight it?

Full lobster bellys for sure.
Mama
Once again awesome pictures!! I didn read something awhile ago about the sightseers drowning at Peggy's Cove. As memory serves they were wanting to install some life saving equipment. I guess they haven't got it done yet.
It's great you are taking in the local cuisine!! Love the shades Taz!!😎
Mmm, that lobster is looking good. And spectacular weather! Lucky you! Yep, those rogue ocean waves take out a few tourists every year for sure. Be safe. ❤️
