109 - Western Canada Road Trip - Day 6 (Brandon - Regina - Moose Jaw - 444km ) - #CanadianFamous

We've recently been introduced to the concept of Canadian Famous by our favourite former babysitter-turned-actor/comedian, Connie Wang!
(thats long "a", "Wahng"...you'll likely be seeing it in lights soon)
Basically, it's when you're well known enough to be a source of pride for, and recognized by (at least a handful of) Canadians...but probably not by anyone else.

Allow me to provide some examples from the latest leg of our trip...

We exited Manitoba with little fanfare,
(Still working on nailing those province-transition shots)

and continued our very straight,

and very flat,
trek across the Canadian Prairies, where we passed field after field of this golden wonder:
Formerly known as "rapeseed", for some reason that wasn't a big seller, so a couple guys in Manitoba bred down the erucic acid content and renamed it,  CANada Oil, Low Acid.

We proceeded into Regina, which the kids were super excited about. And, not just 'cause it makes them giggle. Every. Time...Will saying "Regina" ever not be funny? I doubt it.

No, apparently it's because some kid they met at CanDance Nationals is from a studio here, Dance City, Inc. We considered dropping in to catch a class, but we had other priorities.

Namely, Tumblers Pizza.
Featured in a CBC article back in January,
It instantly became a "must do" on our list.

Tucked into the back of a building on a quiet side street, it was quite the production,
with more than a dozen staff busily constructing a bevvy of meat and cheese laden monstrosities.

We went with the Greek and Classic "All Meat" options.
(and a couple complimentary loaves of bread)
Weighing in at 2.5 kg each, they were a sight to behold.

Jim the owner was super excited to serve us, celebs as we are, he couldn't wait to get us on their Facebook page!

Yes, a little blurry (they're better at making pizzas than they are at uploading photos), but still...

After consuming 6000 calories of meat and cheese, we decided a little physical activity was in order. The nearby Wascana Park Pool fit the bill.
We hit up the waterslides,
One- and three-metre springboards,

the climbing wall,

and the race lanes.
(with predictable results)

It was in the line for the diving board that Ciel overheard a couple of (presumably dance) kids whispering to each other, "I think that's Tasman!"

Our next stop was Moose Jaw, home of Mac the Moose.

The tallest moose in the world, he was actually usurped in 2015 by Storelgen ("The Big Elk") in Stor-Elvdal, Norway - but he regained the title after an antler transplant in 2019.

Moose Jaw's other claim to fame is that the downtown area
was a hub for bootlegging during the American prohibition.

We dove into the underground  "Tunnels of Moose Jaw"
to learn about speakeasies, rumrunners, and Moose Jaw's fabled connections to Al Capone.

It's always best to sample the wares before export...

Lots to be proud of, for sure!

Story has it that during prohibition the pituleys "yard" in southern sask. had a better road to the US than the actual border crossing.
