With the mercury persistently
above 30°C and a paucity of one-horse open sleighs in the region, we weren’t
exactly sure how we were going to get in to the Christmas spirit. Until the weekly cleaning lady (or
“tidying lady” as we like to call her) surprised us by dropping off a
pint-sized Christmas tree. A
string of 150-rupee ($3) half-dysfunctional lights from the corner store, a few iTunes downloads, and
one homemade star angel later,
And we were in
business.
All it took then was
for Mummy to whip out the Santa hat,
And our Christmas Elf
hit the streets to spread some holiday cheer.
Since then there have
been numerous sightings of her in our area.
Along with her ho-ho-holiday
helper.
They even stopped by
our place to help hang the stockings…
…by the home theatre
system with care.
(I think Taz is
getting short-changed this year.)
Christmas Eve was a
big event. Our new friends/potential in-laws (Ref. Blog #058) invited us to their
house for dinner. The kids got all
dressed up in their Christmas-best, while Britt and I tried to remember how to
socialize with grown-ups.
A quick stop to play
Santa for the ducks and fishes.
And off we went.
We were greeted at
the door by Timur, who was looking rather dapper in his business casual attire.
And, as expected, Ilias
couldn’t wait to see Ciel,
Or to Skype his aunt
in Germany, so he could introduce his “new girlfriend”.
Ciel was happy to oblige.
Eager to test out his
brand-new barbeque (and apparently to feed a small army) Martin cleaned out the meat counter at
local supermarket (a half-chicken, 4 fast fry steaks, 3 chicken breasts, and 20
assorted kebabs).
Fortunately, when the
tasty morsels hit the grill, Taz and I were there to supervise (i.e. drink beer
and grunt approvingly).
The crowd was clearly
impressed.
Post-meal meat sweats notwithstanding, one look at the
festive dessert,
And Ciel couldn’t
wait to dive in.
“Guys, don’t worry,
I’ve got this.”
Despite the late
night, all hands (and elves) were on deck bright and early for the big day.
Taz loved his new super hero figures,
And their "realistic teething action".
He also wasted no time putting his newfound gift of mobility to good use.
Meanwhile Ciel cleaned house.
“A new cell! I have
got to get on the horn and tell Poppa about this.”
“Three cheers for
pretty, sparkly rainbow dresses!!!”
“No $&^%in’ WAY!
Baaarrrbiiiiieeee!”
All in all, not a bad
haul.
We hope everyone is
enjoying the festive season. Here is a little Team Bearss holiday cheer from
south of the Equator.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Looks like everything was done up right again. Food, Drinks, good company and the stockings hung up with care. I think Taz should have made a fuss over his ..that just isn't fair.
All is well here, the kids made out like bandits again this year. We had the Whites at our house Christmas day for the BIG meal and went to Mike's Uncle Gords yesterday. Back to reality today, hockey practice later and will try to get our house back inorder.
Can hardly wait to see what you are up to for New Years!!
Merry Christmas to everyone. Looks like a mauritiusian Christmas is just as good as a canadian one (plus, no shoveling). Love the early indoctrination of Tas with multiple action figures. His first taste of superherodum, so to speak. Enjoy the season. Looking forward to the New Years post already....and all of the empty bottles stacked by the chimney with care.
Love the Christmas card. Hey, now Ciel and I can play Barbies together at the cottage - yeah! Looks like Christmas in Mauritius was lots of fun. You're so lucky to have those Christmas elves with you. They are too precious! Miss you & love you.
Hugs & Kisses from Nana & G'Dad
What a memorable Christmas! - stocking hung, tree trimmed, presents to open, friends and cheer! Well done! Love your little elves! Nice work on the card!
