099 - African Adventure - Day 8 & 9 (Victoria Falls, Livingstone, Nairobi) - Taking A Personal Day

After all the excitement in the first 36 hours in Victoria Falls, we decided to take the next couple days to rejuvenate our minds and bodies.

We started by sleeping in until 5 minutes before the complimentary breakfast shuttered, making it just in time for two and a half rounds of mimosas.

Afterwards, we attended the morning “Vulture Cultural Experience”.

Where Moses taught us about the importance of vultures in the ecosystem, as well as current conservation efforts.

Then he tossed out 50 kg of stinky raw meat with his bare hands, and we watched every vulture for 100 km descend on the tiny clearing in front of us for lunch.

He rounded out with a description of the satisfaction of "putting a bullet in the brain" (complete with hand gestures) of any poacher in sight. Very zen.

As we made are way to the spa, we met up with this randy fellow,

who was diligently (and vigorously) taking care of his own personal…wellness.

"Do you have another solution for these blue balls?"

After adorning our spa garb,

and entering a meditative state,

the ladies headed off for Body Renewal Massage and Facials, while Taz and I enjoyed Muscle Ease Treatments followed by a rejuvenating soak

and invigorating snack
at the spa pool.

We followed that up with a foray into town to peruse the works of local artists, before landing at the River Brewing Co., for some live music,

Beer and Soda Flights…

…and more snacks.

Very relaxing.

The following morning we spent poolside,

with some soothing stretches,

before heading back across the river to Zambia for our next leg.

Our wellness came under brief threat at the customs shed in Zambia, mostly due to the difficulty our driver had navigating the maze of vans, double parked transport trucks, and street hawkers jamming up the exit route.

Our low-stress vibe was restored at the Livingstone Airport, where there were no lines,

no people,

and, in fact, no planes either…

SO relaxing.

Eventually, our plane hit the tarmac (30 min behind schedule), and a small gaggle of grounds crew came out of the woodwork to give our ride the full treatment,

and off we went.

After touchdown, we spent a leisurely 80 minutes in the Nairobi Airport, including an hour in the packed customs hall watching every single other line vanish except the one we were occupying (we tried three, just to be sure). The soothing sound of our echoing footsteps as we trudged out of the empty hall was music to our ears.

Safari duffles are packed. It's 02:27, so we're sure to have a restorative sleep before our pick-up at 07:00.

R&R is for wimps, we'll sleep when we're dead.

I am a little disappointed as there wasn't much thrill seeking in this episode but the vulture culture and Mr. Blue Balls will have to do!! LOL!! I think you all needed a little pampering as some of you were looking a little stressed. (pls note the sarcasm) Enjoy the next leg of your trip...I can hardly wait to see what you have planned.
